MMM at Theakstons Old Peculier Crime Writing Festival - July 2010
The team were invited by Stuart MacBride to present their Murder, Mystery & Microscopes event as part of the world-renowned Theakstons Old Peculier Crime Writing Festival in Harrogate in July, mingling with such famous authors as Jeffrey Deaver, Ian Rankin, Joanne Harris, Christopher Brookmyre and many others. As well as our usual event, on Thursday morning James, Dave and Lorna participated in a Question & Answer session for budding and existing crime authors. Here, they were presented with questions such as 'Are there any generic sorts of crime scene that are particularly difficult and frustrating for for ensic scientists to work?' and 'Is there anything a person can do to the soil to make a plant even more poisonous?'
Our Murder, Mystery & Microscopes event on the Friday afternoon attracted our largest audience yet of 550 people. Instead of Stuart MacBride, the books of crime authors Ann Cleeves and Mark Billingham were put under the spotlight.
On Friday evening, James was the judge of Getting Away With Murder, a fun-packed event where one team, made up of Jeff Lindsay and Michael Robotham, went head to head with Stuart MacBride and Mark Billingham. Each team had to come up with ideas for the perfect crime after spinning the 'Wheel of Doom' to get the victim, weapon and location. James had to point out the flaws in their scenarios, and award the scores.
