Current research activities
John Cassella graduated with a degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences and Chemistry in 1988 from Leicester and a Doctorate in Orthopedic Pathology from the University College London in 1993. John has published widely in the area of medical sciences. Having worked in many of London’s major teaching hospitals in a variety of areas of medical research and teaching medical students John took up a post at the University of Central England in Birmingham as a lecturer in Biomedical Sciences. Subsequently, he became a Reader in Biomedical Sciences and also a ‘Programme Leader’ for the Forensic Science degree courses at the University of Derby in 2002.
John joined the forensic team at Staffordshire University in 2005 where he teaches forensic pathology, techniques of human identification and body recovery from disaster situations. John was conferred a Professorial Chair in Forensic Science Education in 2008. John is the CPD/WBL lead in forensic science for the development and delivery of a wide variety of short courses to external organisations such as forensic awareness training for Police and Fire and Rescue services. John sits on a number of groups that work at a national level in promoting the development and improvement of the delivery of forensic education and to improve the links between academia and the forensic industry and UK Constabularies.
