Science into Action Week

As part of a week of science engagement activities, four primary schools in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire were invited to the Institute to experience different aspects of the research. The schools which attended were: Broomhill Primary, Airyhall Primary, Dunnottar Primary and Hazlehead Primary.

The pupils took a virtual tour of north-east Scotland, interpreting landscape features, identifying prospective changes in land use: Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route, a golf course at Balmedie, and an offshore windfarm in Aberdeen Bay.

They explored the proposed windfarm, virtually, and recorded their opinions on views of the development, from onshore and offshore, using the electronic handsets.

The week also included the 34th Macaulay Lecture, given by Professor Jacqueline McGlade, Executive Director of the European Environment Agency, and a special Murder, Mystery and Microscopes for secondary pupils in Aberdeen.
