The UK Acid Waters Monitoring Network was established in 1988 to provide a high quality chemical and biological database with which to assess surface water response to reductions in acid emissions. It provides a unique collection of headwater catchments which span a range of S and N deposition, geological sensitivity to acidic deposition, and degree of afforestation.
