An increasingly important part of our work is to make our science accessible to the public. We do that in a number of ways.
We take part in regular events both locally and nationally where we have information and hands-on demos to get people involved. Among the events we take part in are:
- The Royal Highland Show in Edinburgh
- TechFest in Aberdeen.
- We have exhibited at the Edinburgh Science Festival.
- We are now participating in the British Association Festival of Science.
- We will be part of the Macaulay’s ‘Open Doors’ day, an open day where you can come and find out more about the work that all the staff at the Institute do, in June 2009
We have recently completed a series of discussion groups with people who live and work in the Lunan Water catchment in Angus, looking at local views of water quality - download the flier here.
Our staff regularly articles about water related topics in magazines and trade publications. Read all the 3 Dee Vision projects biodiversity results
Real-time images and data from one of our monitoring sites in the Tarland Catchment are available. Data from a number of other sites will be added as they come on line.
We work with teachers to provide information and teaching resources. A boardgame aimed at introducing some of the issues surrounding catchments and catchment management is in development for secondary school age children.
We have also produced a ‘Knowledge Reservoir’ of facts all about water and some of the issues surrounding its management
You can try your hand at some simple catchment management with our game ‘Pipe Dreams’
Or why not watch a short film about the work of the group, made by Callisto Productions
