Crown Area of Blackhall Scots pine trees

Crown width was measured at 1 metre intervals along the stem. Measurements were made parallel to the ground, rather than North-South or East-West. This was done since it was not physically possible to turn the crowns of overturned trees so that a "directional" measurement could be taken. This was converted into a total exposed crown area. The snapped trees had the slightly smaller crowns than the undamaged trees, but this was not significant .
