The Scottish Roots Group (SRG) was founded in January 1999 with the purpose to facilitate interactions between its members. It has an aim to build a knowledge and skills base, give training for postgraduate students and provide a forum for raising and discussing important issues in root biology. The group currently comprises over 100 members from British universities and research institutes.

Professor Janet Sprent, DSc FRSE OBE, is the Chairman of the Group.
