Along with collegues from Aberdeen University, we are currently testing the feasibility of making annual estimates of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from the land use data contained within the Integrated Accounting and Control System (IACS).
IPCC reporting obligations require annual data for GHG emissions from land use, land use change and forestry sectors from participating countries. In addition to international obligations, the Climate Change (Scotland) Act 2009 requires annual reporting of emissions data. Given the uncertainty in the contribution of the land use sector to Scotland's emissions a pilot study has been commissioned to evaluate the use of IACS alongside a carbon emissions model to provide annual greenhouse gas emission estimates.
See the research specification for more detail. The results of the study will follow.
