These dramatic pictures show how soil acidification is still an ecological threat in Bavaria. These photographs of the same tree were taken (from left to right) on the 22^nd August 1996, 18^th October 1997, and 16^th June 1999.

To understand the main processes that govern the recovery of aquatic ecosystems it is important to evaluate the chemistry of soil and soil solution.
