description |
subset for BASCH of a vector data set containing
hydrological features such as rivers and lakes
along with various attributes.
the data are supplied by the Federal Statistical Office of Switzerland.
the layer is a thematic subset of the "rhi_river" set.

methods |
General:
The data derivation was subdivided into four different steps:
1. Derivation of the geometry of the hydrological features by scanning Swiss hydrological maps with a scale of 1:200,000 with 600 dpi
2. Adding structural information to the hydrological features, such as: flow direction, lake attributes, bifurcation etc.
3.Encoding of rivers and lakes with name and official codes
4. Visual interpretation of width, water runoff and importance of rivers
SELECTION OF LAKES:
The polylines of the layer "rhi_river" with the
attribute
TYPE = 2 or 7 (shore line and artificial lake)
were selected and transformed to an new polygon
coverage using the ArcInfo Commands:
SELECT, PUT, BUILD, ADD and JOINITEM
