WORKSHOP: HOOFS Foraging model

Wednesday 14th March 2001,

Macaulay Land Use Research Institute, ABERDEEN, UK

HOOFS (Hierarchical Object-Orientated Foraging Simulator) is a computer package that is designed to model the decisions made by free-ranging herbivores foraging in an environment which can be modelled in a spatially-explicit way.

The workshop is intended to give an overview of the scientific principles behind HOOFS, the kinds of problems HOOFS can be used to study, and the methodology of its operation. Work using HOOFS, both theoretically and empirically orientated will be presented. One session will enable participants to gain hands on experience of using HOOFS and there will be an opportunity to discuss its potential use in future projects and areas for future development.
