Current research activities

  • microbial ecology of soils e.g. determination of size and composition of soil microbial biomass using cultural and molecular biological techniques.
  • the influence of sewage sludge application to soils on the microbial population.
  • soil biotechnology, specifically the use of luminescent based microbial marker and detection systems e.g. lux.
  • survival and persistence of pathogens in the environment
  • development of bioassays to assess toxicity
  • microbial forensics
